The Canary Islands framework

A European regime, with its conditions

The Canary Islands come under European Union law and have their own economic and tax regime: the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), the Reserve for Investments in the Canary Islands (RIC), enhanced deductions, and the Canary Islands General Indirect Tax (IGIC) in place of VAT. Each scheme has its requirements — effective management in the archipelago, minimum investment and jobs, a closed list of activities — and entry into the ZEC depends on the European timetable for State aid. We first check whether your activity qualifies.

Corporate income tax: ZEC and Spanish regimes, 2026

The 4% rate applies only to the share of taxable income from operations physically carried out in the ZEC, up to €1,800,000 increased by €500,000 per job created above the minimum (up to 50 jobs), and the tax reduction may not exceed 30% of net turnover.

The bridge

A European base facing West Africa

Las Palmas lies opposite the Mauritanian coast and its port lives above all on transit. For a company working towards West Africa, the archipelago is a logistical and administrative base situated within the European Union. It is not a device for repatriating profits earned elsewhere: the activity must be real where it is declared.

  • European Union territory and outermost region
  • Transit port, bunkering and ship repair
  • Regular air and sea links with Mauritania and Senegal
  • The same time zone as Nouakchott for part of the year

The economic bridge

The sectors

Where we work the most

The accounts of a mining company, a fishing vessel operator and a freight forwarder are not read in the same way. We start from the real activity, before any question of legal form or tax regime.

Energy and gas

Offshore gas and oil projects: service contracts, local subcontracting and the obligations of foreign providers.

Mining

Iron, copper and gold: long operating cycles, heavy fixed assets and control of production costs.

Fishing and the maritime economy

Vessel operation, processing and export: customs regimes, landings in the Canary Islands and a changing Mauritanian framework.

Transport and logistics

Freight forwarders, shipping agents and road haulage: cross-border invoicing, IGIC on imports and supporting documents.

Renewable energy and hydrogen

Wind, solar and hydrogen: project structuring, public support, investment deductions and monitoring of commitments.

International trade

Import and export of goods and services: contracts, the export regime, evidence to be kept and recovery of receivables.
